But Someone Else Did It Earlier!!!!
#1
As I’ve been getting more active on TTT again, I’ve noticed a recurring situation where players are receiving warns then getting upset and saying something along the lines of, "But someone else did something much worse earlier, so why am I the only one getting in trouble?" It seems that when players see others "get away with" breaking the rules while staff are present, they seem to feel like it's okay to break the rules too, even though they know the rules are strict.

Personally, when I find myself in those situations, I will message staff to ask if they caught what happened, and if not, I try to provide a clip for them. I understand that staff can’t be everywhere or hear everything, especially when a rule breaker is in dead chat while staff are alive. For example, there have been a couple of times when someone complained that staff didn’t act, but they weren't in dead chat, so staff wouldn’t have been able to know without being informed. But even aside from the obvious reasons staff might not see something, they are real people who are not glued to their screens or even the game itself. They are allowed to go AFK or tab out and not be ridiculed for missing something. We as a community can also help the staff out to ensure that things are being handled.

Idk, I guess I am just curious about how we can help change this mindset or if we think there is even a way to change the mindset.

One of my biggest pet peeves is someone complaining 3 days later that someone didnt get punished, but they stay quiet when it actually happened. Please, everyone, we dont mind a quick poke in asay asking if we caught something or are watching someone do something.

I don't think it's possible to change this mindset. It reminds me of school. People see other people get away with stuff behind the teachers back, they try and do it, get caught and reprimanded over it, they then snitch and so on.

i think the rules are too strict anyway so imo they should stop being pussies about other people's rulebreaking and just get better at not getting caught

This is actually a situation I myself have noticed over the years on dinks, when people dont see others being punished they think its okay for them to act troublesome, 100% agree that staff cant see everything and at the end of the day I feel like this boils down to consistency and the community coming together to help staff catch things like you said, this is just something everyone has to work together in order to improve.

"Don't feed the trolls" is the idiom here.

It's something that really needs to be phased out from a cultural standpoint. Being edgy invites people to be edgier and breaking the rules and getting away with it makes other people want to push boundaries further. It's a fine line though, because we don't want the server to be completely sanitized - that would be no fun.

Idk man, what are you gonna do.

Listen but we have rules at home sorry -1. But on a more serious note its always been that way whether its been oh this guy never gets in trouble so I will let him slide or oh I thought it was funny whatever its always been like that and I myself would like for that to change and have equal punishment across the board. I'd say if you see something happen and you don't believe that anything is being done about it a quick message to staff cant hurt. Just don't go overboard with it. I myself am also to blame across the entire community considering I have been staff pretty much across the board for the past 8 years or so and have also let things slide. I do enjoy this post!

If I'm honest, I've never really understood why it's so hard for some people to just... follow the rules. Sure, there's a bunch of them but it's not like they are unreasonable. It's really not that difficult to not cause problems.

Like in my whole time on this server, I have never been warned, (even on PH except when they gagged me instead of the person that actually slured because people were talking at once back in my first few hours on it, and thats when I started recording anytime I am in the servers, because I couldnt make an abuse report withimout video evidence )
