Dork Rash appeal
#11
IMO this is a flaw in the rules if something like this gets warn points at all. I can understand things that are overly sexual and graphic, but this is a one off joke that didn't even seem to get a verbal warn? Are all sexual jokes banned or only those that go over the top? I would not put this into any category of the rules. I also could be wrong and stupid!

Edit: Yes as Bunniey said below, a verbal warn would also be a good way to handle it

Agreed. Warning for this at all without at the very least a verbal sets a weird precedent. Dirty jokes haven't ever really been a big deal as long as they don't cross a line.

We're not warning every time someone says suck my dick to someone directly, idk man

I personally think that the line was crossed when the message was directed at a person who wasn't there to consent/be in on the joke.

It just sets a bad precedent. All it would take is one misunderstanding for a message like that to create much deeper problems than it should (this thread being one of the less harmful examples of that). I would really not like to see messages like that directed at people who either aren't interested or aren't present.

Once again, it's clear that in this specific context, the message was not malicious. Had I been the staff member there at the time, I would probably have stuck to a verbal warning, but given how far this issue has gone, I have reconsidered my stance. It's now pretty clear to me how easily this type of message can be mistaken for something as serious as sexual harassment, and because of that, I think this type of language should be taken a bit more seriously.

EDIT: I was informed that d33r was present at the time the joke was made. While my above opinion stands, I think (pending a non-negative response from d33r) this would be fine to be bumped down to a verbal.

Hello I issued the warn.

If d33r is fine with it I'd be fine with the warn being removed; the only reason I added it the first place was because I private messaged d33r in game about whether or not she felt uncomfortable about it and got no response; I was unaware d33r had disabled all in-game chat so I just assumed she was afk and hadn't seen the message, and I generally consider unwarranted sexual remarks the same whether the subject of them is present or not.

I also hadn't heard the original statement DickRash's message was a play on either; if I did I probably would have also asked d33r if it made her uncomfortable then gave an overly sexual warn instead.

Btw I'm not trying to shift blame to d33r, I probably should have tried to contact d33r on discord or on steam first, before issuing the warn.

Deer was there, she just didn't see my message. It was just a dumb response to something said in the moment.

I actually had a small chat with an individual who heard the comment in question. It definitely goes on the list of something goofy that probaly shouldn't be said in the server but I don't think something that minor constitutes a harassment warn. Harassment would imply that this was a repeated action internationally targeted towards one or more players where as this is just something raunchy. You have an insanely good track record on this server and aren't known for causing any type of malice.

+1 on the warn to at minimum be changed to an overtly sexual conversation warn if not minimum be removed. I am not going to defend what you said because that was still a pretty stupid thing to do but it seems like a little bit of an overstep to call that harassment and ban you. This is something that could have been solved with a simple private message rather than a permanent record given your circumstances.

Also man please be more careful. ):

To preface, I believe harassment (sexual or not) should be handed out sparingly, and with due regard for the person who would be the "victim/target" of said harassment. Considering that the person who was the subject of the statement did not even hear the comment (had chat disabled, as previously mentioned) I don't think this constitutes harassment. I mean hell, the actual wording of the sexual harassment warning (available in the staff guidelines, accessible by all within the TTT rules) is "unwelcome and inappropriate sexual remarks or advances". It can't exactly be unwelcome if the target is not aware that it is happening. That would immediately drop this to an overly sexual warn.

Now on the grounds of that overly sexual warn. Context really matters here, and the context was a play on the words "coming" and "cumming". While edgy I've seen cases of this same play on words ignored by moderators and admins alike previously. Especially given the context of the play on words, it really isn't something I'd consider something worthy of a warn.
So, due to the fact that:
1. The person who was the target of the comment was not aware of the comment to begin with
2. The person who was the target of the comment has not (to my knowledge) expressed that they have been uncomfortable by this comment and would classify it as Sexual Harassment to them
3. The comment itself has been a play on words that has been previously ignored/allowed
4. The context of said comment further backs up point 3
I think at minimum this warn should be dropped down to a 6 point overly sexual warn. I'd actually be in more favor of dropping this warn off all together and instead going with a verbal, just because previous precedent has stated that this kind of play on words has been okay previously.

TLDR:
+1 Sexual Harassment being removed, +0 replacing with a overly sexual warn and +1 with removing all warns and instead replacing with a verbal.

nah keep it, seems like something someone called diskrash would do

In all seriousness, this should have probably been overly sexual rather than sexual harassment, if it was continuous or more than 1, sure maybe, but a 1 off comment that was relitively tame considering the entire context of what was said before it, definitely seems like a reach

Warn has been removed. I think the original warn was understandable without some of the context.

Decided on a full removal not reduction to overly sexual. You haven't had any issues whatsoever (that I know of) with following the rules. I dont think you even push the limits very often.

Consider this your verbal tho... be a bit more careful with how you phrase/throw things into chat.
