Why the need for transparency?

(06-25-2021, 12:51 AM)Gabeolo Wrote: Of course, but the point I was making with that post is that mods know how people tend to treat them before signing up for it. Alright time for an even more retarded metaphor, say you sign up to work as a guard at a maximum security prison, they give you a tour of all the criminals and make you aware that its dangerous but you go through with it anyway. Say like two months later there's a riot or some shit and you get your face slashed open by a lifer. When you recover and go back to work many of the prisoners see your entire painful situation as a joke, and of course they do, because it makes them more powerful than you and its not like they respected you that much in the first place. You can't punish the lifer any further, you can't punish the prisoners mocking you because they haven't committed any crime, so what can you do? The difference between the prison situation and the server is that you have no obligation to continue being a guard/moderator, so your options are basically to suck it up, or to resign, and unfortunately once you've already been put through the stressful situation there's not a whole lot you can do to gain respect (not that there were many in the first place, many of these people would want to do harm in the first place just because of your power.) And by the way, I don't mean to say that server troublemakers are dangerous people who don't see you as a person, but this is like an exaggeration and shit, idunno man i wrote all this bullshit and i wanna post it now

Edit: I also wanted to say that I think that the last post was a resounding success because it 1:got me attention which I crave as a troll on the internet, and 2: Got everyone to reunite and agree on something, that something being that I'm a retard who should have his opinion license revoked, and I am fully willing to sacrifice shit like positive reputation for those two things, unlike in the prison metaphor, everyone wins!

You're right, that is probably the shittiest metaphor you probably could have made up. There are a bunch of reasons why but I will keep it down to two reasons:

1. The prisoners are forced to be in the prison. They are there for things from drugs, forgery, to kidnapping and murder. They belong there. This is a gaming community and the community members can choose to leave whenever they like and not all the community members have done anything bad to be forced here.

2. The officer is being payed. Not with a thank you or friendship with the prisoners who they are trying to keep contained but by monetary currency. This is so that they can buy things or pay for things that they need like shelter, electricity, food, clothes, etc. Most of the time, guards get financially compensated pretty well.

I think probably a more accurate metaphor would be an employee at Chuck E. Cheese's. Most of the adults or kids visiting are just there to have fun and come and go as they please. Every occasional kid or adult is an asswipe but since for most people it is not a forever job, they leave when they have enough. That still leaves room for the terrible people, like someone who would come rob the place, or a family that comes often, leaves a complete mess and then leaves, but still leaves enough room for the mostly chill people.

People signed up to help out the community or their server to help out like stopping ghosters, hackers, toxic trolls etc. Now some of the higher ups understand with the role that they have that it is part of the "job" but I can guarantee you that no one signed up to have to constantly deal with the supposed staff vs regulars or the pedophilia amongst other things.
