I'm going to come out of my woodshed satellite server (not by my choice it's one, but it is what it is) to make a comment.
+1. I don't play anymore, but I think you are going to be fine. If you resign, whatever. I don't care enough to use that as a reason to reject you, even if can be argued to be an arduous cycle. Just whatever you do, keep your word about what you said about your mindset.
I can understand that finding out someone you idolized is a terrible human being can have a negative impact on your perspective on things; I actually had a similar experience with that in my collegiate music program, so I know how that can affect one's mental state. It is very destructive to one's ability to discern character, as it makes you feel as if you are incapable of it. Just remember that every human being makes mistakes!
Have fun with it. If this is what you want to do, then by all means do it.
