Hey Dinklebergers!
I've had an idea of a map that I've wanted to make for a while that's based on one of my favorite games.
Also, I have an assignment at my college where I need to spend the next 9 weeks working on some kind of project of my own and make a shortish video my journey, and turns out this would be perfect for it!
About the actual map idea:
I plan to make it a recreation of the geometry from this game: The Sexy Brutale
I know the Title of the game makes it sound like a certain genre, but trust me: It's not like the kind of game you think. It's simply the name of the mansion. (tbh a poor marketing choice lol)
The game is based around a time loop, where you explore the mansion and save different people from dying over the course of a repeating 12 hours.
Onto the actual level design portion:
I have a specific gimmick that I would like to add to the map, where if you interact with a clock tower on the map, it will spawn you nearby it on the next round. I've never seen something like this where your actions from a previous round play into the next round, so I think it would be really interesting :)
I have a couple of ideas ready for t traps and secret passageways, mostly based on what your character gains access to through knowledge checkpoints in the actual. This will include fast travel for traitors.
Here are some pictures of the map in the actual game; you have to click "show content". (potential game spoilers beware!)
Note that I will likely be cutting the majority of the outdoors part, most of the basement, and the left half of the "Upper floors", so that rounds don't take an insane amount of time as well as game spoiler reasons (unless requested by popular demand).
Of course my first build will just be the geometry and not even proper textures. In fact, I'm most definitely going to need people to help me with artwork for the finished product. I also plan to add a lua script later to track the selected clock tower + spawning mechanic. My main focus for my school project is to create a map from scratch rather than doing edits of maps like I have been, so my main priority will be the general structure until around mid April-May.
Is this interesting to y'all? Is there anything I can improve on? Am I fucking stupid for this idea? Got any ideas of things to add?
Please let me know what you think so I know if this is an endeavor worth taking on for the community, as well as improve it if I do decide to go through with it.
