Why the need for transparency?
#66
Transparency according to WIKIPEDIA

"Transparency, as used in science, engineering, business, the humanities and in other social contexts, is operating in such a way that it is easy for others to see what actions are performed. Transparency implies openness, communication, and accountability.

Transparency is practiced in companies, organizations, administrations, and communities.[1] For example, a cashier making change after a point of sale transaction by offering a record of the items purchased (e.g., a receipt) as well as counting out the customer's change on the counter demonstrates one type of transparency.

The term transparency has a very different meaning in information security where it is used to describe security mechanisms that are intentionally in-detectable or hidden from view. Examples include hiding utilities and tools which the user does not need to know in order to do their job, like keeping the remote re-authentication operations of Challenge-Handshake Authentication Protocol hidden from the user".

I would say by this definition the community has transparency.

Lets start here "Transparency implies openness, communication, and accountability".

Everyone has access to Forums that is not already banned for a reason that is usually stated within the ban, even those banned have the opportunity to file for an unban AND ask for proof of their ban. The staff member that banned the player is to be mentioned with EVERY unban request, thus holding them accountable for their actions.
Also, proof is brought forth about person(s) who is potentially to be banned for the violation(s) which holds the accused accountable for their actions along with the staff member/player communicating and being open to what they witnessed.

Lets talk about the Security side of Transparency or the things behind closed doors shall we. In regards to the player spreading child porn links, those who essentially needed to know did know. The players exposed to this creature have been in communication with staff members, the upper staff has been made aware of this creatures existence and has been dealing with it the best we can.

->Does informing players not exposed to the situation actually help resolves the problem? No. Could a general announcement be made to not click on any links posted in chat? Yes. Is it also common sense to not click random links? Yes, but people still do it anyways because curiosity. Is it also common sense to not make jokes about more serious topics especially ones that have effected many community members? Yes, but that common sense is lost on various occasions for the sake of entertainment.

Now a few things were put in place to help reduce peoples exposure to links, and it's not perfect but it will help a little. The link and word filters put in place will hinder people a little but it doesn't stop them. I made an adjustment to the rules for DR as an additional back up if the unfortunate event happens on DR (which you can see in DR Change Log on forums. openness/communication/accountability).

Is this enough transparency? The openness, communication, and accountability that you've been seeking is right in front of you... Now if you want ALL the details in regards to others, as a normal player you aren't privy to that information and it is not necessary for you to have those details. Not sorry.

Hopefully this helped/made sense. IF not, then ignore it.
