Retard gives off the wrong vibe to me.. you can argue it's just a synonym for idiot, stupid, moron, etc. but you can't ignore its connection to mental disabilities.. I can definitely see how people would be more offended at someone saying they have a mental disease that automatically makes them dumber than everyone else as opposed to just being called stupid the regular way.

That said, it's a TTT server. It's just that kind of crowd. Discord makes more sense, but I could never see this being enforced on the server itself.

we can play this game if we want and say that words that have innocent origins are fine but those with origins that denote a disability are not but by that logic the f word should be allowed and the m word shouldnt. Pretty silly. Words are fluid but intent isnt. Are we focusing on every detail of the word or the intent behind it? Just for the record I had nothing to do with any actions taken today. I was offline all day, and am still getting caught up on the situation.
But my opinion at this time regarding the word in question is (copied verbatum from what I posted in staff discord)

My personal opinion is that if discord TOS doesn't have any influence on the use of the term i don't mind it being used in a non-derogatory way. Its not a slur like the f or n word, which have absolutely no reason for them to be said. But calling someone that to be derogatory, in any form, should be disallowed.

Also just to clarify my original warn and the whole situation that set this argument off, was in fact, not used in a derogatory way. I just said that something was "retarded" and two PH mods preached the "You're insensitive if you use that word!" and "You're a terrible person." It was only after that I told them both that they were retards.

So, yes, I was warned on discord for using it in a non-derogatory way.

I would also like to make a note on changes in rule enforcement. In the past, the rules on this topic have not been enforced like this. However, today that appeared to have changed which if that is the server's position I respect that. With a major change like this, an announcement needs to be made and it needs to be consistent punishment among all discord staff. For example, there have been 4,348 instances of people saying this word in the discord, how would the players know about this change in the enforcement of the rules if they are not notified by an announcement? Changes like this NEED to be an announcement in the discord to the members.

Nb4 this is deleted for contributing nothing, this is commonly known as satire. In the event that my message was not readily apparent, I will not be collecting consistency word cards, that would be absurd. Wouldn’t want someone to not know that just because I was insinuating that the choice of words moderated by staff are wildly inconsistent due to personal backgrounds and the fact that no community standard has been set for the media platforms. Don’t be distracted by the overuse of the word and then no measure being taken to address a rule change from left field just because is a *checks sun dial* Sunday night.

You directed the word at us after calling us "a bunch of retards being retards over a GMod server". I posted the entirety of the conversation to be as transparent as possible. Technically speaking, we asked you to not call us that and you used it at us. Even if the word itself wasn't being punished, the fact that we asked you to not used it at us should be.

No I said "a bunch of retards being retards as is the norm for a GMod server" in regards the argument that was occurring in real time. Which included myself and anyone else in the conversation. It's really not my problem that you're offended so easily and you feel like you need a safe space on the internet. It's also not my problem that you had a shitty interpretation and interpreted that as direct attack on you, and not the fact that it has been said 1000s of times that only retards play GMod.
