I don't regret what I did
#5
I'll drop the trollish persona here for a moment.

I've known 14 people, Marines and Soldiers, and Corpsman who've committed suicide. 2 cops, too. It gets hard and personal when it's something so close to you. And I think more than anyone else on the server, after two deployments, four years working as a Police Officer, I responded to, experienced, and saw many instances of suicide. I saw kids take their own lives, fathers, sons, I've stood over the holes that I watched my friends and comrades and coworkers get lowered into. I had to stare at pictures for hours, combing through every picture I've ever taken hoping that I had more interactions with them than I remembered. I wanted so desperately to remember them that I sat there, combing through pictures upon pictures.

So yes, I do agree, suicide is a big deal. I don't want to participate in the trauma olympics, because unfortunately, I'd probably win with most, if not all, people here. And it's not a good feeling, it's not something you should take lightly.

However, I'll tell you something that people should also tell you.

You don't get to dictate what happens to you, but you *do* get to dictate what you do with it. It's the internet, it's real life, whatever you want to say. People are going to say things that you don't like. People are going to say 'kill yourself' or make jokes about offing themselves. Even I do it. It's a facetious statement, it's something they don't truly mean. And you have to understand that it's a vernacular, an insult. Just like how everyone says "go fuck yourself" doesn't imply you go to the nearest store and buy a suction dildo to use in the shower. You have to be able to build up some mental resilience and live. If you are so triggered and upset by someone making that comment on the internet, you don't need to be an environment that is mostly made up of people speaking freely. Even I don't particularly like that statement, but I understand that it's very common to say nowadays and that it's a fact of life. There's also just a quiet moment to reflect and then take it upon yourself to pull that person aside and gently ask "hey man don't say that". I have to say that a few times in my social life, and probably will for many more times over. But to react like this shows me that there's something troubling you more than just the statement, and that you need to conquer it to live your life to the fullest you can.

I genuinely love the people on the server, and I love the community and in some weird roundabout Christian way that's hard for people to understand, I love you too. So I hope things get better, and there's less instances like this in your future.
