As many people have already said, but needs to be repeated. If it is seen as commonplace to use ANY kind of derogatory language on a server, then some will use ANY derogatory language.  We already see it with the made-up word clanker. People use clanker in place of other slurs because "it's a fake slur." and it encourages people to be weirdos. Even if a majority of people vote that it has no meaning, it still will affect those who are uncomfortable with it.  What you show people is that YOU want to be hateful, and it's ok to do that here.

All jokes aside, this is a really old game. More importantly, its a game. its not a job and its not the professional world. it is going to be ' a little edgy'. 

Now, does that mean you should slur in a mean way? no.


should we allow hate (especially racial)? no. In general, if the N word soft a is used in a friendly way (such as 'whats up, my [soft a]'), its edgier sure, but not offensive.
I am not familiar in a way where there is a version where cr*ck*r is/can be used in a friendly way but if it were, its just edgy, y'know?
now if you get RDM'd, and you write something to the effect of 'this dumb [c word] shot me face off [c word] ass bitch', that's the word being used in a non-friendly tone. see the difference?


tl/dr: context matters, and always follow the DBAD rule. If what you are going to say/write involves being mean or hurtful or hate filled, and especially if it contains a slur, then mabye you should not say it.

im not gonna lie I stopped reading after the second page.

I don't think it's a difficult situation or a tightrope we need to walk here. I mean, end of the day, there's nuance in just about everything but I think TDawg summed it up well enough on the first page: If a word, hell you could use "Rutabaga," if that word is used to derogatorily attack someone for something they cannot change, then it should be punished accordingly --- as with any derogatory/flaming language!

However, I have never in my life seen anyone fight so tooth and nail about people saying cracker. As a white dude, I know damn well no one is using the word cracker to hurt me or my feelings. Even if it did get to the point where I felt as though "cracker" was being used specifically to attack my person through my race, I'd probably shrug it off and wouldn't give a damn cause it doesn't mean anything to me. (unlike other words used to attack people through their race.)

If you want to compare cracker with other slurs, sure, you can because at the end of the day they're all slurs, sure, but, you're kinda dumb for dying on this hill. Especially cause if you fight that damn hard you're just gonna be that cracker that complained and their feelings got hurt.

Rand gave his stance for discord. My first post still summarizes my thoughts.

Just so staff have something to point to and it is clear going forward I/we went ahead and added "Cracker" to the Note under the 6 point Racism/Sexism/Derogatory Language warn. Like Rand said, I would expect this to be currently enforced more strictly than it other wise would be because of the context of the last few days.

If this wasn't a community based game I would mostly agree, but it is and we have to have discussions like these so that the comfortability of the players in our community isn't ruined.

I disagree, I think based on the current power dynamics in the usa that replacing "white" with any other race isn't the same. Saying "I hate Mexican People" vs saying "I hate White People is very different to me, but I know people disagree.

Sure you're entitled to an opinion, just not sure why these things should be said. Regardless of how you feel, others may not feel the same. It's just not an inviting or good look.
