It appears the biggest issue is not having enough time nor an introduction thread. Neither one of those are a big issue that cannot be easily resolved. Having discord is optional before having a staff role and is not a requirement the same with only needing an introduction thread to apply for a trusted role. You are correct that the times you are speaking of that it can be rather difficult sometimes to have a staff member online which only makes your time on the server before a staff role even more important. I would rather wait and have someone be ready for the rank rather than have the rank given to someone who may not be ready.
